More Utility Belt

It's kind of like a magical clown car. Anything you need is in there, otherwise how would you know what kind of Bat-situation you were going to encounter before you boogied out of the cave?

Here's one from the show. Autographed.
Not quite as snazzzy, hunh?

Ahhh, the magic of cardboard and television!

Holy Frijoles!

Here's an EP from 1966, with Los Monjes doing a crazy cover of "The Batman Theme."

The other three tunes are good Mexican garage music. Check it out.

Step Right Up!

After the Batman series came to an end, both Adam West and Burt Ward found themselves typecast and unemployable.

Adam West actually appeared at a car show in Kansas City, in full Batman regalia. Upon making his grand entrance, he said "Hi everyone! Remember me?"

Yikes!

But probably the most humiliating was accepting an offer to be shot out of a cannon at some county fair somewhere.

Apparently some county fairs didn't even bother with having the actor present as evidenced by the photo above.

Sad.

A crimefighter's day is never done.

Especially when ABC's got you pluggin' the Dobritch Circus.

What holds an atom, weighs four 3/4 lbs and takes it's name from the early image orthicon camera?

The "Emmy" !

In 1966, "Batman" was nominated for three Emmys - Best Sound Editing, Outstanding Comedy Series, and Performance by an Actor in a Comedy Series.

Nope, not Adam West or even my beloved Julie Newmar. The Emmy nomination was for Frank Gorshin's "Riddler."

Gorshin was up against some tough company: Werner Klemperer's "Colonel Klink," Don Knotts' "Barney Fife," and Morey Amsterdam from "The Dick Van Dyke Show."

When the envelopes were opened, Don Knotts took home the statue, and neither of the other awards went to "Batman" either. Best Comedy Show went to "The Dick Van Dyke Show" and I cannot find a record of who won Sound Editing, but does it really matter?

Because by 1967, it was all over. "Batman" was never nominated for another Emmy, and by the next year, the show was history.

The Greatest Mother Of Them All

This being Mother's Day, it only makes sense to put Ma Parker on here, played by the late great Shelly Winters.

She appeared in a couple of second-season episodes, with her three sons and one daughter (Legs, played by Tisha Sterling).

Here's some choice dialogue:
Batman: "Ma Parker's girl is more dangerous than her three boys."
Robin: "Her legs sort of reminded me of Catwoman's."
Batman: "You're growing up, Robin. Remember, in crime-fighting always keep your sights raised."
