Get hip to The Gotham City Crime Fighters.

Formed by sax player Emilio Castillo, The Gotham City Crime Fighters later evolved into the soul/funk group Tower Of Power.

But back in 1966, they released "Who Stole The Batmobile?" on Batwing Records. Yet another Batman-themed cash-in record, it can be heard on the compilation You Got Yours! East Bay Garage 1965-67. As you may have guessed, it's a masterpiece.

Have We Talked About Frank Gorshin Yet?

I think not.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you...

THE RIDDLER!!!

(unmasked and autographed)

I once saw Mr. Gorshin bombed out of his mind in an elevator in Secaucus, NJ. I was sitting on a couch that some friends and I had installed into The Sheraton's elevator bank and Mr. Gorshin entered at the lobby.

We all just sat there agape, until the door finally opened at his floor.

And then my friend Mark yelled, "Riddle me this, why are you so fucking drunk, Riddler?"

Mr. Gorshin did not respond and seemingly retired to his room.

We were drunk too.

But then he died. I mean, not that night, but shortly thereafter. He died after I saw him on Broadway doing George Burns in "George and Gracie," in which, he was brilliant.

RIP, Mr. Gorshin.

Shoulda Paid More Attention In Shop Class.

If I had, I'd be making me one of these Bat-Radios right now. (Instead of learning the proper use of a band saw, I was probably looking at Famous Monsters magazine — or thinking about looking at Famous Monsters magazine.)

This is how the Bat-Radio looked when it was offered at auction. That brass-colored loop thing is gone.

Below is how it looked in the Batman movie back in 1966. By the way, into this prop Adam West spoke the immortal dialogue: "Hand me down the Shark Repellent Bat-Spray!"

Poison Ivy???

Why was there no Poison Ivy in the original series??

Hunh??

Hunh???

Hunh???

I mean Uma Thuman was all hot and shit, but really, if she had had a predecessor - who would it have been?

My vote is for Cyd Charisse. Right after she appeared in "The Silencers."

Dr. Pamela Lillian Isley, a promising botanist from Seattle, first appeared in Batman #181 in June of 1966.

Sniffing Glue And Fighting Crime.

We'll have more on the Aurora Batman models later, but here's an ad that plugged the "great new show" and "great new hobby kit."

Aurora and MPC and Revell re-issued the same kit several times over the years, with variations on the box art. And eventually, like when the first of the Tim Burton Batmans came out, your local hobby shop (or Toys R Us) was asking a lot more than 98 cents for these things.
